Prevalence and influencing factors of central obesity among adult residents in China

  •   Objective  To analyze the prevalence and influencing factors of central obesity among Chinese adults and to provide references for the prevention and control of central obesity.
      Methods  The data on 1 344 adults aged 18 – 65 years were derived from two waves of China Nutrition and Health Survey conducted in 2011 and 2015. SPSS 19.0 was used in data analyses.
      Results  In all the adults surveyed, 667 were identified with central obesity, with a prevalence rate of 49.63%. Unconditional multivariate logistic analysis demonstrated that female gender, education of junior college and above, tea drinking, alcohol drinking were risk factors for central obesity; while, drinking coffee and heavy physical labour were protective factors against central obesity.
      Conclusion  The prevalence of central obesity is high and mainly influenced by gender, education, tea, alcohol and coffee drinking, and intensity of physical labour among adult residents in China.
