Screening and bioinformatics analysis on genes associated with erythrocyte receptor of Plasmodium RhopH complex

  •   Objective  To predict candidate genes associated with red blood cell receptor of Plasmodium RhopH complex using bioinformatics analysis for providing evidences to malaria prevention.
Methods  Using National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), Uniprot, ExPASy-PortParam and other network resources, the mouse genes in D11Mit10 and D11Mit284 regions on chromosome 11 were assessed for erythrocyte transcription, signal peptide, trans-membrane region and glycosylpbosphatidylinositol (GPI) structure.
Results  A total of 339 expressed genes on the mouse chromosome 11 were identified, of which 137 were transcribed and expressed in red blood cells; 7 had trans-membrane regions, 4 had signal peptides, but none had GPI sites. Some of the genes as Atp5g1, Slc4a1, Itgb3 may be expressed on the surface of red blood cell membrane and their expressions may be correlated with erythrocyte receptor for Plasmodium RhopH complex.
Conclusion  The expression of some genes such as Slc4a1 and Itgb3 on mouse chromosome 11 may be correlated with the erythrocyte receptor of Plasmodium RhopH complex.
