The Effect of Lycopene on Cell Growth of Human Prostate Carcinoma Cell

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the influence of lycopene on cell growth of prostate carcinoma cell line and apoptosis.MethodsTime and dose effects of lycopene were detected using MTT assay; The influences in the cell cycle and the apoptosis were obsersved through flow cytometry.ResultsLycopene could inhibit the growth of DU-154 cell line with a dose-effect The biggest rate of cell growth inhibition is up to 78% in those treated with lycopene for 4 days.Lycopene can influence the cell cycly of CU-145 and apoptosis. But ithas not been found in LNCaP cell line.ConclusionLycopen inhibits DU-145 cell line in vitrol, and the mechanism may be related to the influence in the cell cycle and induction of apoptosis.Ithas been demonstrated that androgen indepent cell line(DU-145)are more sensitive to Lycopene than androgen dependent cell line(LNCaP).
