Susceptibility Locus for Schizophrenia Possibly Located Within Chromosome Xp11

  • Objective To locate the predisposing gene of schizophrenia. Results Three gene-rich loci,HS212 G6,HSU93305 and HS884M20 within the short arm of the chromosome were examined for allelic association with schizophrenia in 70 families of male individuals affected with schizophrenia, neither the HS212 G6 nor HS884M20 was found to be associated with schizophrenia. The likelihood-based linkage disequilibrium analysis, however, showed that the HSU93305 locus was highly associated with shizophrenia. The HSU93305 locus contained four distinct genes. They coded respectively for A4 differentiation-dependent protein(A4),triple LIM domain protein(LMO6),synaptophysin(SYP)and calcium channel alpha-1 subunit(CACNA1F).Conclusion It was possible that one of these genes or some loci near them may predispose a vulnerability to schizophrenia.
