Evaluation on Semen Quality by Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of short-wave radiation on male semen quality by single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE).The method makes it possible to find sub-clinical injury on sperm and to propose protection measures in time to insure promoting population quality realistically.MethodsTo detect the semen quality from men exposed to short-wave radiation by routine semen analysis and sperm single cell gel electrophoresis(SCG E).ResultsNo changes on semen analysis can be observed in shortwave radiation group, but the SCGE analysis showed first class comet cell percentage increased significantly than control group.ConclusionAnalyses on persons exposed to short-wave radiation with long time showed slight changes on sperm concentration motility, and the rate of viability but sperm DNA strand breakage was obvious. The micro-structure(ie,sub-clinical)change can be detected by SCGE.
