Case-Control Study on Gastric Cardia Cancer

Objective Searching for the risk factors and etiological clues of gastric cardia cancer.Methods A hospital-based multi-group case-control study on 603 patients aged 30-79 years,accessed in hospital during April and July in year 2000 and 2001,was conducted in 6 hospitals.In Fuzhou city.The gastric cancers were confirmed by pathology,surgery or endoscope and were classified according to anatomic site into car diacancer(n=191)and non-cardia gastric cancer(n=190).Controls(n=222)were selected form depar tments of orthopaedics and urinary of the same hospital.Uniform questio nnaires was used to obtain information near the sicked.The data were analyzed by logistic regression model.Results The risks positively associating cardia cancer were first grade relativities suffered from cancer(OR=4.286 95%CI:2.431-7.554),eating fast(OR=2.028 95%CI:1.042-2.910),having three meals irregularly(OR=1.909 95%CI:1.396-2.610),drinking well water(OR=1.741 95%CI:1.042-2.910)and consuming more cigraette per day(OR=1.347 95%CI: 0.989-1.835).Dietary factors for cardia cancer showing inverse association with the consumption of raw fruit(OR=0.645 95%CI:0.439-0.945)and conservation of food in refr igerator(OR=0.731 95%CI:0.536-0.997),higher state of knowledge(OR=0.468 95%CI:0.276-0.794).Conclusion There might be different etiology and risk factors between cardia and others sites of gastric cancer.Further studies was need to be taken.
