Cytotoxicity of Toothpaste Extracts and its Detecting Method

ObjectiveThis study was conducted to explore the cytotoxicity of toothpaste extracts on oral mucosal keratinocytes cultured in vitro,and to estabish a method to evaluate the cytotoxicity of toothpaste,gargle and medicines by oral.MethodsOral mucosal keratinocytes of rabbit tongues were isolated and cultured in vitro,and used to detect and evaluate the cytotoxicity of several toothpastes by MTT colorimetry.ResultsExcept Chinese herbal medicine toothpaste,cytotoxicity of three toothpastes containing drugs were higher than that of others,but the relative growth rates in some extent density of health toothpastes increased apparently.ConclusionIt suggested that the detecting method of cytotoxicity on oral mucosal keratinocytes was applied to evaluate the safty of oral health products.
