Changes on frequency and antimicrobial susceptibility of bacteria isolated from blood

  •   Objective   To investigate the changes on frequency and antimicrobial susceptibility of blood isolates, and to provide basis for preventing and controlling bloodstream infection.
Methods   Blood isolates were collested in 15 tertiary hospitals in Hubei province from 1999 to 2003 and their drug-susceptibility were tested by Kirby-Bauer method.
Results   Coagulase-negative staphy lococci(CoNS)and enterococci isolated from blood specimens increased fro m 27.0%, 1.3% in 1999 to 51.9%, 4.2% in 2003 respectively.Staphyolcoccus aur eus and salmonella sp.iso lated from blood specimens decr eased from 21.1%, 11.9% to 7.8%, 3.0% respectively. The suscept ive r ates of staphylococci to cefazo lin and ciproflox acin, enterococci to penicillin G, escherichia coli(E.coli)and klebsiella sp.to ceftazidime and cefepime, P.aeruginosa to imipenem were all decreasing, susceptive rates of enterococci and E.coli to chloramphenicol were increasing.Ox acillin-resistant CoNS and extendedspectrum B-lactamase producers in E.coli and klebsiella sp.were incr easing.
Conclusion   The active surveillance of microbial pathog ens and resistance profiles of strains isolated from bloo disessential.Antibiotic strategies should be adjusted timely according to the results of blood isolates.
