Analysis on suicide ideation and its risk factors among medical undergraduate students

  Objective   To determine the prevalence and the risk factors forsuicide ideation among the medical students and to provide scientific basis forpromoting psycho logical health and suicide prevention.

  Methods   The clinical students in Fujian Medical University were investig ated with a questionnaire.The data were arranged with unconditional logistic regression and the Kleinbaum's method.

  Results   13.6% of respondents had suicide ideation.Multi-factors logistic regression analysis revealed that having intercourse vexation, addiction to video game, insomnia forexam, feelingex hausted, lackinglove from families, study into deep evening, want forchanging specialty, household's income less than five hundreds yuan, having chronic diseases, short of memory skill, havinglove experience, and disregard forsample in the course of study were independent risk factors forsuicide ideation.Theirpopulation attributable risk ratio came between 7.65% and 36.77%.

  Conclusion   Psychological disfigurement and learning problems are the majorrisk factors forsuicide ideation of clinical students.The medical universities should supervise students periodically, strengthen management and give remedy pertinently.
