Seroepidemiology survey of Helicobacter pylori infection in rural residents of Xinxiang County in Henan Province

  Objective   To understand the infection situation of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)infection in rural residents of Xinx iang county in Henan province and provide the scientific bases forenacting preventive control measures of Hp infection and Hp associated disease.

  Methods   Hp antibody of 1 057 residents with upper digestive tract symptom and their families was examined by using ELISA.The data were analyzed by SPSS10.0 statistics software.

  Results   Positive rates for Hp infection were 77.22%.The infection rates of male and female were 78.16% and 76.57% respectively, which had no significant differences.There were no significant differences among the infection rates in differentage groups by trend χ² test.However, Hp infection rate of people aged 25 was highest(85.21%).Among 195 spouses, if one was infected with Hp, the infection rate of their consorts was 92.81%.On the contrary, if one was negative for Hp, the infection rate for their consorts was 30.95%.There was no significant difference in statistics(χ²=77.335, P < 0.01).

  Conclusion   The infection rate of Hp is high in Xinxiang county of Henan province, and Hp infection is clustered within families.
