Analysis on heritability of cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking in adult twins in Qingdao city

  • ObjectiveTo discuss the impact of inheritance on cigarette and alcohol consumption in twins.MethodBased on zygosity identification, the heritability of cigarette and alcohol consumption were studied in 503 pairs of twins, aged ≥24 years, who were voluntary to participate in this study.Holzinger analysis was employed to estimate the heritability of cigarette and alcohol consumption.ResultsThe heritability estimated for cigarette smoking was(66.5±5.53)%,heavy smoking was(43.0±5.75)%,the Kappa consistency test was K=0.453(P<0.001)in Monozygotic(MZ),K=0.307(P=0.005)in Dizygotic(DZ);For alcohol consumption, the heritability was(60.8±7.79)%,amount of alcohol consumption was(22.2±9.80)%,the Kappa consistency was K=0.518,P<0.001 in MZ,K=0.160,P=0.224 in DZ.ConclusionThe influence of heritability is larger on alcohol and cigarette consumption.A significant genetic effect could not be observed for the amount of alcohol and heavy smoking.Kappa Testis moderate consistency on cigarette and alcohol consumption in male mono zygotic, but not on female twins and male dizygotic.
