Relationship between serum adiponectin and transaminase in male adolescents

  • Objective To study the association between serum adiponectin and transaminase acitivities in male adolescents, and discuss the impact of adiponectin on fatty liver. Methods 132 male adolescents aged 14~16 were randomly selected, and their body weight, height and blood pressures were measured.Blood samples were collected from each subject after fasting for 10 h and the levels of ALT,serum lipids, and glucose were routinely measured.Serum adiponectin and insulin levels were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and RIA.Results Various markers of metabolic diseases including body mass index(BMI),waist, serum triglyceride, and insulin resistance assessed by the homeostasis model were significantly higher in subjects with increased transaminase activities compared to those with normal activities.Correlation analyses demonstrated that the serum adiponectin level was inversely correlated with the level of logarithmic serum ALT(r=-0.209,P<0.05).After controlling BMI and WAIST,the inverse correlation were not significant(P>0.05).Conclusion Hypoadiponectinemia may worsen liver diseases associated with metabolic diseases in adolescents, but this damage may be effected by BMI and WAIST.
