Investigation on knowledge and perception of AIDS/STDs among female employee in entertainment establishments

Objective To know the demography,behavior and HIV/AIDS knowledge among female staff from enter-tainment establishments in community in Shenzhen.Methods 245 female staff from 13 entertainment establishments in the community in Shenzhen were sampled randomly and sur veyed before and after SD/AIDS health education.Results The median age of having sex for the first time among the female staff was 19 years(minimum 13,max imum 25);Those who were tested for HIV accounted for 9.2% and the those who always used co ndoms before only accounted for 13.6%.Among 245 female staff,2.0% heard of HI V/AIDS;22.0% had an understanding of the sex ually transmission routes of HIV/AIDS before health education;6.7% heard of HIV/AIDS;35.5% had an understanding of the sexually transmission routes of HIV/AIDS after health education.Conclusion T he female staff from entertainment establishments has a low level of know ledge concerning STD/AIDS and safe sexual behavior.It is necessary to strengthen health education to reduce the STD/AIDS prevalence and keep STD/AIDS away from high risk population to g eneral population.
