Analysis on socioeconomic determinants of hypertension for residents in rural area of Kunming

  • ObjectiveTo simultaneously examine contextual and individual level socioeconomic variables on hypertension in rural Kunming.MethodsPmbabihty proportional to size(PPS)sampling method was used to sehet representative sample of 6,006 residents aged 45 years and over from Shilin county,a rural area of Kunming.Information was obtained from a cross-sectional health examination survey.The data was analyzed using multilevel logistic modding.ResultsBoth village level and individual level socioeconomic variables were associated with hypertension.Individuals with lower family income had higher prevalence of hypertension.The elderly had higher prevalence of hypertension than younger people.Males had higher prevalence of hypertension than females.People living in remote village tended to be worse of in having hypertension.ConclusionVillage level interventions on hypertension in parallel with those at individual level are needed.Prevention and intervention on hypertension should be emphasized on remote villages.
