Dietary survey among medical students

  • ObjectiveTo understand the status about the dietary among medical students in colleges and to provide the scientific proof for nutritional education.MethodsThe medical students were randomly selected by cluster sampling in Lanzhou University and investigated with a dietary survey of the 32 day continuous 242 hour reviewed method and weighed method.ResultsThe student's diet composition was mainly grain foods,green vegetables,fruitages and meats.The schoolboys were higher in intakes of grain food and meats than the schoolgirls,but the schoolgirls were higher in the intakes of fruitages and milk than the schoolboys.The intakes of high quality protein was less than the one-third of total intakes protein among 53.3% of schoolboys and 50.2% of schoolgirls.The intakes of vitamin A,vitamin B2,calcium,and high quality iron were less than 90% of dietary reference.The distribution of energy was unreasonable.The energy of breakfast was lower and the energy of supper was higher than dietary reference.ConclusionNutritional education should be carried out in the light of the shortcomings in dietary.The intake of vegetables,fruitages,milk,legumes and lean meats should be increased to improve the level of high quality protein,calcium,and high quality iron,vitamin A.
