Analysis on trend of food poisoning in Gansu Province from 2001 to 2005

ObjectiveTo explore the trend of food poisoning in Gansu Province and to provide scientific basis for effective control and prevention of food poisoning.MethodsThe number of cases,sufferers and deaths,the incidence rate and the fatality rate of food poisoning were analysed.ResultsThere were 122 food poisoning cases,2 891 sufferers and 33 deaths during 5 years.The incidence rate was 2.22/100 000 and the fatality rate was 1.14%.From 2003,the number of cases,sufferers and daths and the incidence rate of food poisoning all depicted downward trends.The speed of increase of the fatality rate of food poisoning was of no significant change from 2001 to 2005.The average incidence rate and fatality rate of food poisoning both were significantly higher than the national average levels in the same period.ConclusionThe effective methods should be taken to control and reduce incidence and fatality rate of food poisoning.
