Multiplex diet intervention and health status among elderly in Nanjing

  • Objective To investigate the status of diet and health of elderly in Nanjing and evaluate multiplex intervention on food intake and chronic diseases.Methods After the physical examination and dietary survey,573 individuals were selected as intervention group(208 individuals)and control group(289 individuais).The former was provided with coarse grain foods and health education,and only health education for the latter.Results The in takes of rice wheat flour and products,dietary fiber,fish and shrimp,vegetables,thiamin,riboflavin and calcium among more than 50% of elderly adults were less than the recommended amount,while cooking oil intake among more than 70% of elderly adults exceeded the recommended amount.The proportion of fat was 38120% of total energy.After intervention,the intake of dietary fiber in intervention group increased obviously,and salt declined obviously(P<0.05).Obesity,hypertension,elevated levels of fasting blood glucose,dyslipidemia were under control obviously in intervention group,and were significantly better(P<0.05)than the control group.Conclusion The dietary status of elderly adults needed to be improved.The effect of multiplex diet intervention on chronic diseases of elderly adults was effective.
