Impacts of sex education on sexual and reproductive health among high school students

  • Objective To evaluate impacts of family and school sex education on sexual and reproductive health among hig h school students.Methods A 2-school-year intervention study was conducted in 11 high schools in Xuhui district,Shanghai.The impacts of intervention were evaluated by comparing results of surveys before and after the interv ention.Results At baseline,the knowledge score of group 1(18.75)was lower than that of group 2(26.00)and control group(28.55) among junior hig h school students(P<0.05).The scores of corresponding groups among senior high school students were 40.54,37.57 and 38.17,and there was no significant difference among them.Knowledge scores of all groups were increased significantly after the intervention(P<0.01),especially those of intervention groups(P<0.05).M ulti-factor analysis dis covered that after adjusting other influencing factors,the differences of gained scores between the two intervention groups and control group of junior hig h school students were 16.5 and 22.respectively.And among seniorhigh school students,the differences of gained scores between the two intervention groups and control group were 18.8 and 16.8 respectively.Conclusion Both sex education models could increase the sexual and reproductive health knowledge of high school students.Different sex education model had different effects on students of different age.
