Evaluation on the effects of community-based intervention on hypertension among rural women

Objective To measure the effectiveness of community intervention on hypertension among rural women.Methods Intervention measures,including treatment guidance,health education,health promotion,carrying outhealth screening before using oral contraceptives and blood pressure monitoring after using it among child-bearing age women were carried out based on the results of a baseline investigation.Final investigation was performed one year later and comparison with baseline results was done.Results (1)Control rate of hypertension increased significantly from 2.26% to 26.21%(P <0.000 1).(2)The effect of intervention varied with area.Increment of control rate of hypertension in Taicang area was higher than in Rudong area(P=0.037 6),and the risk of hypertension in Taicang area decreased compared with Rudong area(P=0.003 4).However,health education effect in Rudong area was better than in Taicang area(P<0.000 1).(3)The mean blood pressure of baseline decreased to normal level from(142.38±12.84)mmHg(SBP),(90.87±7.25)mmHg (DBP)at the begining to(139.05±19.24)mmHg(SBP),(83.67±9.92)mmHg(DBP)at the end of the study(P< 0.000 1).(4)The child-bearing age women,people who were not farmers,and people without family history of hypertension had a better intervention effect than people who were older,farmers and with family history of hypertension.Conclusion The beneficial effect of the intervention among rural women was confirmed in this study.The control rate of hypertenalon increased significantly,the mean blood pressure decreased to normal level.
