Cross-sectional study on knowledge, attitude and behavior of breast cancer screening among women in Beijing

  • Objective To get information on the status of knowledge,attitude and behavior of breast cancer screening among women in Beijing.Methods Randomized cluster sampling of the cross-sectional study was applied to collect information from women aged 35 and over living in 10 communities in Beijing.Results 911 effective questionnaires were collected.Most women knew that small movable lump in breast was the sign of breast cancer(71.0%),fewer women knew that nipple -recovery was the sign of breast cancer(38.3%).The awareness rate was higher in women who has better educational background.75.9% of the women believed that early-detection of breast cancer could increase survival rate,the attitude was positive towards breast cancer screening.Breast cancer screening rate was 43.0%.17.2% of the subjects had done breast selfexamination,22.4% had clinical breast examination,19.3% had mammography,19.3% had ultrasound examination,and 19.5% had infrared-ray examination.Conclusion There were considerable inadequacy and disproportion in breast cancer screening knowledge among urban women in Beijing.The attitude towards screening was positive.Breast cancer screening rate of urban women in Beijing was at lower level.
