Investigation on attitude of students’ parents towards children associated with AIDS

  • Objective To find out the extent of students' parents knowing knowledge,law and policy about HIV/AIDS,and their attitude to OVC's educational right.Methods 582 parents whose children were in primary schools,junior high schools or senior high schools were investig ated in Heilongjiang and Henan province,and Beijing city.Results The awareness rate of knowledge about HIV/AIDS of the parents was 74.83%.Only 35.9% of them heard of the "four free and one care" policy,and 42.4% of them heard of its details.Though over 95% of the parents approved OVC' educational right,only less than 40% of them would like to let their children to study in one classroom with OVC.Conclusion Parents' knowledge was not across-the-aboard and the awareness of the policies was in low level.Parents' sympathy for people with HIV/AIDS depended on the route in which they infected HIV.Parents' discrimination against OVC existed in certain extent.
