Relationship between admission blood glucose and clinical outcome in acute stroke patients during hospitalization

  • Objective To investigate the relationship between admission blood glucose level and in hospital death and disability in acutestro kepatients. Methods 3 938 acute stroke patients in six hospitals in Tongliao city,Inner Mongolia from January,2003 to December,2005 were investigated for admission blood glucose and other base line materials.Multiple Logistic model was used to analyze the relations between blood glucose level and the risk of in hospital death and disability in acute stroke patients. Results ORs of in hospital death and combined outcome(death or disability)associated with blood glucose≥7.0 mmol/L were 8.227(95%CI=4.122~16.420)and 2.043(95%CI=1.494~2.793),respectively.After adjusmtent for age, gender, ethnic, cigarette smoking,a lcohol drinking and blood pressure, there was a tendency of increased risk of in hospital death and combined outcome(death or disability)with elevated blood glucose at hospital admission. Conclusion Hypergly cemiaat hospital admission may be an independent risk factor of in hospital death and comb inedoutcom in acute stroke patients. The present study suggested that blood glucose should be controlled actively post stroke.
