Study on relationships between maternal anemia in third trimester and pregnancy outcomes

  • Objective To investigate the rela tionships between maternal anemia in the third trimester and pregnancy outcomes and serumiron of cord blood. Methods The 526 pregnant women, who participated in antenatal care in hospital from June 2006 to February 2007,were taken part in this study. The am bispective cohorts tudy approach was used to collect the data prior to conception,an tenatal care and pregnancy ou tcom es.Results The prevalence of pregnan twomen anemia in the third trimester was 42.95%,of which the prevalence of mild, moderate and severe anemia was 22.25%,19.60%,11.0%,respectively.The new borns'recum bent length, birth weight and gestational ages of moderate and severe anemia group were less than that of non-anemic group.Maternal hemoglobin in the third trimester was linearly correlated with new 2 borns'recum bent length, birth weight and gestational ages. There was nolinear correlation between maternal hemoglobin in the thirdtrimes ter and new borns'serumiron of cord blood(r=-0.012,P>0.05).Conclusion It is suggested that the a-nemia of pregnant women in the third trimester has adverse effects on pregnancy outcomes. There is norelationship between serumiron in cord blood and pregnan twomen anemia of the third trimester.
