Relationship between level of HIV-prevention knowledge and attitude orientation among local policemen

  • Objective To understand the situation of HIV prevention knowledge,attitude orientation and their relationship in local policemen.Methods The questionnaires were filled-in by 505 local policemen anonymously.The HIV-prevention knowledge level and related attitude were analyzed with multinomial Logistic regression.Results The average score of biomedical knowledge about HIV/AIDS was 12.17±2.36 among the policemen.For policy-related knowledge,the average score was 3.02±1.73.The support rates in the policemen for needle and syringe exchange and methadone maintenance treatment were about 74%.More than 90% of interviewees would like to participate in voluntary counseling and testing and to use condom.Only 57.8% of interviewees showed their will of communication with the HIV infected persons.The result of multinomial Logistic regression showed that the number of policemen with negative attitude decreased with the increase of HIV-prevention knowledge.But there was no change in the policemen for communication with HIV infected population.Conclusion The knowledge traning for local policemen about HIV/AIDS prevention especially the knowledge related to national policies should be strengthened.
