Investigation of oral hygiene status in non-oral medicine undergraduate

  • Objective To investigate the oral health status of non-oral medicine undergraduate and to guide their oral hygiene bebaviors,Methods Totally 554 undergraduate students of anesthesiology department,Weifang Medical University were investigated through questionnaire and oral examination in order to study their caries prevalence and awareness of oral health care.Results The caries prevalence rate among the students was 46.39%.The average decayed teeth were 0.71.The filled rate of caries was 35.19%.The students from city showed significant higher caries rate and filled rate than those from countryside,and so did the senior students compared with the junior students.The female students showed significant higher caries rate than the male students,but the filled rate had no significant difference.Multiple linear step regression analysis showed that factors influencing caries prevalence rate were the initial time,frequency,duration of brushing teeth and preference for sweets.Conclusion In general,the non-oral medicine undergraduate are lack of oral hygiene knowledge.It is necessary to advocate early examination,early prevention and early treatment among the students in university.
