Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate(DEHP) levels in water samples from an plastics reclaim site

  • Objective To study levels of di(2-ethyl hexyl)phtha late(DEHP)in the water samples from anplastics reclamisite for environment protection and residents' health. Methods The levels of di(2-ethyl hexyl)phthalate(DEHP) of water samples collected from theriver, wells, ponds, tap water, and industrial effluent in the exposure region and the control region were detected with solid phase extraction and gas chromatography method. Results The DEHP levels in all water samples were determined. The average DEHP level in the river water samples from the polluted section(2.05μg/L) was 6.4 folds higher than that of the control section(0.32μg/L).A verage DEHP level in the pond(135.68μg/L)and the well(14.20μg/L)water samples from the exposure region were 18 folds and 215 folds higher compared with those (0.79μg/L and 0.37μg/L)in the control region, respectively. The DEHP level in industrial effluent sample ranged from 0.36μg/L to 161.86μg/L.Conclusion Attention should be paid to DEHP levels in well, pond water and the industrial effluent because they exceed the national standards.
