Prevalence of suicidal idea and its influencing factors in military personnel

ObjectiveTo understand the prevalence and the distribution character of suicidal idea in military personnel, and to provide evidence for health promotion program in military.MethodsFace-to-face in terviews were conducted among 1.527 military personnel selected with cluster sampling.A Chinese version of the World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview(CIDI 3.0)was used,and a military related socio-demographic questionnaire was used to collec trelated in formation.ResultsThe response rate was 82.33%.There were 174(1.51%)responders reporting suicidal ideation with a suicide plan rate of 0.22% and a suicide attempt rate of 0.23%.Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that mental disorder history,living in urban area before enrollment and childhood foster were related to suicidal idea.ConclusionCompared with civilians there is alow prevalence of suicidal ideation in military personnel.
