Prevalence and risk factors of high normal blood pressure among people in rural area of Yanbian country

Objective To assess the prevalence of high normal blood pressure(HNBP)and its risk factors in rural inhabitants of Yanbian country,Jilin province.Methods A total of 5 903 subjects aged 20-70 years were selected and their anthropometric and biochemical indexes were measu red.Results The age-adjusted preva lence of HNBP in the Korean subjects was significantly higher than that of in the Han subjects(40.9% vs 40.5%;u=6.9,P<0.01).The age-adjusted prevalence of HNBP had significant sex difference in both nationa lities.The preva lence of HNBP decreased with the increase of age.Multiple factor analys is showed that male,lower age,body mass index(BMI)≥24 kg/m²,current alcohol drinking, with metabolic syndrome,being Korean were risk factors of HNBP.Dose-response relationships were observed between HNBP and age,BMI.Conclusion HNBP is prevalent in rural residents.The preva lence of HNBP is correlated with sex, age,alcohol drinking,metabolic synd rome,and nationality(Korean).
