Correlations between BMI and blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipids among male university teaching staff

  • Objective To analyze the levels of blood pressure (BP),blood gulcose (CLU),blood fat among male teaching staff in a university and to explore the relationships between body mass index (BMI) and BP, CLU and blood fat. Methods The BMI, BP, CLU, total chlesterol(TC),triglyceride (TC),high density lipoprotein (HDL)were tested among 1833 university staff and the results were statistically analyzed. Results Among the staff, 945 people had obesity(51.55%);491 people had high blood pressure (26.79%);91 poeople had diabetes (4.94%);610 people had high blood lipid (33.28).The level of BMI, systolic blood prssure (SBP),diastolic blood pressure (DBP),CLU, TC and TC increased with age (P<0.05).The levels of SBP, DBP, CLU, TC, TC of obesity subjects were higher than those of nounal subjects with a significant difference(P<0.05).The HDL of non-obesity group was higher than that of obesity group(P<0.05).Conclusion Obesity is very common in male university teaching staff.Obesity is a risk factor of of high blood pressure, high blood glucose and high blood fat.The obesity should be controled among the university teaching staff.
