Knowkedge and awareness of sleep apnea syndrome in hypertinson patients

Objective To investigate the know ledge and awareness of sleep apnea syndrone(SAS) in patients with hypertension, the rate of taking polysom nography (PSG) inspection in hypertension patients with suspected SAS diagnosis, and the treahn entrate of the patients with SAS diagnosis.Metbods Faec-to-face interview was conducted among 516 hypertension patients in a hospital from 2005.The know ledge on SAS and the correlated inform anon on treahnent were studied with a questionnaire.Results There were 59(11.4%)patients thought SAS was a risk factor of hypertension, and a higher know ledge rate was observed in the patients with higher educational background.In 301 patients with suspected SAS dingnosis, 92 (30.6%)accepted the PSG inspection In 84 patients with definite diagnosis of moderate and severe SAS accompanied with hypertension, 37 (44.0%)accepted the treahnent of operation or continuous positive airway pressure.Conclusion Patients with hypertension had a deficient lnow ledge and awareness of SAS, whick resulted in a poor detection rate of SAS and a low rate of treahn ent in patients with definite diagnosis of moderate or severe SAS accompanied with hypertension.
