Prevalence of obesity and relationship between obesity and blood pressure,blood glucose and blood lipid in occupational population

Objective To explore the prevalence and related factors of overweight, obesity and central obesity in an occupationalpopulation of Ningxia HuiAutonomous Regions, and to discuss the relationship between overweight, obesity and blood pressure, blood glucose and blood lipid.Methods With cluster sampling method, workers taking routine health check-up were selected from Yinchuan, Yinnan, Yinbei cities of Ningxia Questionnaire survey, physical exam ination, and laboratory testes ere conducted in the participants.Results Totally 2 224 people were interviewed and physically measured.The prevalence rate of overweight, obesity and central obesity was 35.39%.9.67%,46.57%,respectively.The rates of the male were obviosly higher than those of the female (P<0.01).The prevalence rate of hypertension, hyperglycemia, and abnounal blood lipid of the overweight and obesity group were higher than those of the nounalweight group.And those rates of the central obesity group were higher than those of the nounal waist circumference group with a significant difference between the two guoups (P<0.01).The rates of hypertension and hyperglycem is increased with the rise of age.The results of logistic regression analysis showed that overweight and obesity were closely related to age, gender, alcohol drinking, hypertension and abnormal blood lipid with the OR values of 3.015, 1.093, 1.304, 2.892, 2.880, respectively (P<0.05 for all).Conclusion High prevalences of overweight and obesity present in the occupational population of Ningxia Obesity and over weight, especially central obesity are important risk factors for the development of hypertension, hyperglycemia and abnounal blood lipid.
