Antibiotic resistance and molecular types of Salmonella isolated in Zhejiang province

  • Objective To know antibiotic resistance and molecular types of Salnonella isolated in Zhejiang province and to provide evidence for typhoid fever and paratyphoid feverprevention.Methods K-B method recommended by WHO was used to detect 209 strains of pamtyphi A and 5 strains of typhi and 119 isolates were classified by pulsed-field gelelectrophorese(PFGE).Results Overall 209 strains of paratyphi A were sensitive to amikacin and all strains were resistant to erythrom ycin, nalidixic is acid and rifampicin.The sensitive rate to ciprofloxacin of 209 strains of pamtyphi A was only 58%.Five strains of typhiwere sensitive to cephalothin, cefotaxine, gentamycin, ciprofloxacin, ampicillin, amikacin, and amoxicillin clavulanate and all stminswere resistant to erythromycin and rifampicin The sensitive rates of the strains isolated in different cities were in concordance with the most of antibiotics, except doxycycline A total of 119 isolates were classified to 20 types by PFGE.Conclusion Most of pamtyphi A isolated in Zhejiang province are classified to two types.There is no difference in antibiotic resistance rate of paratyphi A among strains isolated in different areas.
