Prevalence of leptospirosis in Jiangxi province

Objective To analyse epidemic character istics of leptospirosis and to provide scientific basis for control and prevention of the disease in Jiangxi province.Methods Epidemiological analysis on leptospirosis data from 2001 to 2008 was conducted.Results A total of 1 405 leptospirosis cases were reported in the province during the period of 2001 to 2008 with an average annual incidence of 0 42/100 000.There were 38 cases died from the disease with a fatality rate of 2.75%.74.59% of the cases occured in Ganzhou,Yichun and Shangrao cities.Most of the cases were sporadic cases in farmers and 91 74% of the cases were at age of 10 to 59 years.The sexratio was 2:1(male to female).The inc idence peak appeared in July and August.The prevalent type were jaundice hemorrhage(32.61%)and paddy field(15.94%).Conclusion The incidence of lepto spirosis declined during 2001-2008,but the incidence was highin some areas.The main source of infection is fieldrat and the main prevalent is icterohaem orrhagiae.
