Detection of pathogens in ballast sediments from international vessels

Objective To investigate the types of pathogen in the sedinents from ballast tank on international ships for sanitation treahnent of sedin ents from international vessels.Methods Sedinents of ballast were add into nutrient broth and alkaline peptone water with the p roportion of 0.5 mg/0.5 mL.There fixture was shaken overnight and cultured at 37℃.The culture was inoculated onto selection medium after bacterial enrichment.The positive colonies were picked out for identification after overnight culture.Results Totally 15 kinds of bacteria were detected from 48 ballast tank sedinent samples collected from 45 international vessels and 12 kinds of them were pathogenic.Conclusion The sedinentdischarge of international vessels should be monitored and treated before discharge.
