Mental health and personality characteristics among migrant women

Objective To probe personality characte ristics and its relationship with mental health among migrant women.Methods We employed Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)and Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90)and conducted a sample survey among 656 migrant women in Jiangsu province.Results The scores of extraversion/interoversion (E)in the floating women were higher than the norm(P<0.01).The scores of neuroticism(N)in the floating women were lower than the norm(P<0.01).N,Lscores in the floating women were higher than that of in floating men(P<0.01) and the scores of psychoticism(P)in the floating women were lower than that of in floating men(P<0.05).P,N scale in EPQ revealed a significant positive correlation with the total score and the items of SCL-90;Escale in EPQ revealed a negative correlation with the total score and the items of SCL-90.The results of regression analysis demonstrated that the floating women's mental health could be predicted by psychoticism,extroversion-introversion,and neuroticism.Conclusion The personality characteristics of floating women was significantly related to their mental health level.
