Analysis of hospitalization expenditures among 3287 gastric carcinoma inpatients in general hospital

  • Objective To explore the influencing factors of hospita lizatio nexpend iture of gastric carcinom a inpatients and to provide evidence for perfecting medicine security system and preventing ga stric carcinoma.Methods The data on hospitalization expenditure of 3 287 gastric carcinom a inpatients in general hospital of Shanxi province were analyzed with descriptive analysis,rank test and multiple stepwise regression model.Results Admission rate of gastric carcinoma was in creasing continually from 2002 to 2008.The num ber of gastric carcinom a inpatients in 2008 was 1 8 times more than that of 2002.The average time of hospitalization was 17 day s in 2005.After adjusted by price index,the average hospitalization expenditure inc reased with an average annual growth rate of 13 5%.The average hospitalization expenditure in 2008 was 2 5 time smore than that of 2002.Except the lower growth rate of 1.18% in 2006,the average hospitalization expenditure in creased yearly.The propo rtion of medicine expenditure was bellow 40% and showed a downword trend.The main influen cing factors of hospita lization expenditure of gastr ic carcinom a inpatients were days of hospitalization,proportion of drug cost,and age.Hospitalization expenditure of the inpatients with health in surance was higher than that of inpatients without health insurance(P<0.01).Hospitalization expenditure of inpatients cured was more than inpatients with other treamtent outcomes(P<0.01).Conclusion Controlling the use of medicine and reducing the time of hospita lization could be effective and fea sible means to reduce the hospitalization expenditure of gastric carcinom a inpatients.
