Attitude toward circumcision for prevention of HIV infection among men who have sex with men

  • Objective To investigate the willingenss to participate(WTP) in a clinical trial of circumcision for prevention of HIV infection and related factors of WTP among men who have sex with men(MSM).Methods Between February and March 2008,MSM were investigated to collect their perception on HIV and male circumcision.Results Of 200 participants,13 reported taking circumcision,3 did not know whether they had circumcision or not.Of 184 MSM uncircumcised,36.4% reported the willing to participate in the clinical trial of circumcision to prevent HIV.The related factors of the attitude toward circumcision included with foreskin (odds ratioOR=2.82,95% confidence intervalCI=1.45-5.49) and the belief that circumcision could increase pleasure of sexual activity (OR=4.50,95%CI=1.77-11.49).Conclusion Methods should be taken to intensify the dissemination of AIDS and circumcision related knowledge to decrease worries and discrimination among MSM and general population.
