Strain types and resistance of Shigella shigae isolated in children of Urumqi

ObjectiveTo analyze strain types and antibiotic resistance of Shigella shigae isolated in children of Urumqi and to know the epidemic and distribution of bacillary dysentery in the children.MethodsSamples of child diarrhea patients in 2003 to 2009 were collected.Bacterial strains were identified with automatic bacterial critical instrument.The strain types were identified with serological test and the drug-susceptibility was detected with antibiotic slip difusion methods.WHONET5.4 was used in statistical analysis.ResultsMost of the children with shigellosis were at age of zero to three years(54.06%).Among all shigellosis,85% occured from May to October.Most of strain types were Shigella Flexner and Shigella sonnei.Four groups of Shigella showed highly resistance to penicillium(50%-100%)and low resistance to third generation cephalosporin and fluoroquinolones(0-62.6%).But all of the strains sensitive to imipenem.ConclusionShigella Flexner is a dominant epidemic strain in children with dysentary in Urumqi and different strains have different antibiotic resistance.
