Job burnout status and social support in nurses

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the status of job burnout and its relationship with social support among nurses.MethodsOverall 310 nurses were surveyed with Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey,Social Support Rating Scale and self-made social support questionnaire.ResultsThe total detection rate of burnout among the nurses was 41.9%.Length of service,educational background,marital state,and working department were influencing factors for job burnout level.The total score of the burnout was negatively correlated with all dimensions of the social support(r=-0.169-0.537,P<0.01).Working unit support,objective support,the availability of support,friend support and cmmunity support were significant negative predictors to one or more dimensions of job burnout(Beta=-0.098--0.461,P<0.05).ConclusionAttension should be paid to job burnout problem and social support in nurses.
