Path analysis on effect of family environment factors on Chinese dyslexic in children

  • Objective To investigate the influence of family environment on Chinese dyslexic in children and to provide theo retical basis for prevention and treamtent of the disorder.Methods Five hundreds and eight-seven children in grades of 3-5 from two prmiary schools in Wuhan were selected with random cluster sampling to finish questionnaires.The path analysis was done in the study.Results The prevalence rate of Chinese dyslexia in the children was 3.92%(2.17% for the girls,7.38% for the boys).The result of path analysis showed that offering resources to encourage children to read,children having difficulty in finishing home work,and parent child reading were inner factors.Further more,education level of parents and family economic status were outer factors.The outer factors affected the occurrence of dyslexia indirectly through the inner factors.The risk factors significantly mipacting Chinese dyslexia were the difficulty of the child in finishing home work,offering resources to encourage children to read,family economic status,education level of parents,and parent child reading.Conclusion Offering a wealth of reading resources,creating a good reading environment and paying attention to parent child reading have miportant practical significance in prevention of dyslexia.
