BMI distribution and its relationship with chronic disease among residents of a community in Wuhan city

  • Objective To study the contribution of body mass index(BMI)to incidences of high blood pressure and diabetes to assess the risk factors of over weight and obesity among community residents of wuhan city.Methods Related information was collected from health records of the residents and the effects of sexuality,age,education level and occupation on BMI and the relation ship bewteen over weight/obesity and incidence of high blood pressure/diabetes were analyzed with mathematical statistics.Results The risk factors of abnormal BMI were gende,rage,and education level and the incidences of high blood pressure and diabetes increased in the residents with over weight/obesity.Conclusion The male,at the age of more than 50 years and with loweducation level,over weight and obesity are positively correlated with the incidence of hypertention and diabetes.
