Type 2 diabetes in citizens of Xichang city, Sichuan province:a cross-sectional study

Objective To understand the preva lence of type 2 diabetes and its risk factors in citizens of Xichang city, Sichuan province.Methods With stratified cluster sampling method,a cross-sectional study was conducted among citizens in Xichang city.Questionnaire survey,blood tests were carried out in the field study including 2 037 citizens in 2008.Results The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the citizens was 7.31%(standardization prevalence:9.22%),and the prevalence among the men and women were 7.12% and 7.51%,respectively(standardization prevalence:8.74% and 9.63%,respec tively).The prevalence of type 2 diabetes increased with age,and there was a significant difference between sex in the prev a lence.Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that age,family history of diabetes,hypertension,high level of trigly cer ide,and low level of high-density lipoprote in were a ssociated with type 2 diabetes,with the odds ratios of 2.112,2.268, 2.114,1.487,1.801,respectively.Conclusion The preva lence of type 2 diabetes in citizens of Xichang city is lower than the national level of 2007-2008.
