Cognition of sex and reproductive health among medical students and non-medical students

  • Objective To understand and compare the status of sexual attitude,premarital sexual behavior,and repro ductive health knowledge among medical underg raduate students and non-medical underg raduate students for reproductive health education.Methods Totally 786 underg raduate students were selected with stratified cluster sampling and investiga ted with anonymous questionnaire in two medical universities and two non-medical unive rsities in Guangzhou.Results Among the students,56.5% approved of premarital sexual behavior;60.0% opposed unmarried pregnancy and unmarried abortion;94.1% bilieved that unmarried pregnancy would causepsy chological trauma.The correctreply rates for reproduc tive health and sexually transmitted disease were low.The accurate reply rates for reproductive health,sexually transmitted disease and spread route of AIDS in medical students were higher than that of in non-medical students(all P < 0.01).The most reliable three sources of reproductive health information for the students were medical personnel,health education per sonnel,and teaching curriculum.Conclusion The universities should develop reproductive health education program ac cording to the situation of reproductive health cognition among college sutdents.
