Stressors and related factors among pregnant women infected with HIV

  • ObjectiveTo study the stressors and related factors among pregnant women infected with HIV.MethodsWomen infected with HIV in high prevalence areas of Yunnan province were selected.Data were collected through face to face interview using a questionnaire for demographic and psychosocial status of the women.The measurement scale included Buffalo HIV Life Events Survey(BHLES),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),and "Big Five" Personality Questionnaire.ResultsThe total number of the subjects was 44 with the average age of 25.7 years and average time of 12.1 months for the diagnosis of HIV in fection.Social relation was the major stressor among the women(16.39±12.09),followed by physical health(7.93±11.60),economic condition(2.80±3.15),working(1.32±2.99),and religion(0.80±2.36).ConclusionThe major stressor of HIV infected pregnant women is social relation.Demographic and psychosocial factors are not siginificant stressors.While the neurotic personality characteristics and objective support are significantly related to the occurrence and in tensity of HIV stressors.
