Relationship between psychological well-being and locus of control in PLWHIV/AIDS

ObjectiveTo examine the relation ship between psycho logical well being and locus of control among the people living with HIV/AIDS(PLWH/A)in rural area,China.MethodsAcross sectional survey was conducted in four counties,Hubei proince.Totally 105 participants received a face-to-face interview including Symptom Checklist-90,(SCL-90)and a self developed HIV locus of control sclae.ResultsThe average score of SCL-90 was 2.36.The socres of the nine dimensions were significantly higher than Chinese norm(P<0.001).Hierarchicalmultiple regression analysis indicated that among gende,rage,educational background,family income,and locus of control, the predictors for the average score of SCL-90 were external locus of control(β=0.273,P=0.004),family income(β=-0.280,P=0.003)and gender(β=-0.208,P=0.027),which accounted for 19.4% of the score.ConclusionThe psychological well being of PLWIV should be considered.The external locus of control has an effect on psychological well being.More attention should be paid to the female.
