AIDS-related knowledge and high risk behavoirs among community minority drug users

ObjectiveTo understand the knowledge,risk behavior characteristics of AIDS among national minority in jecting durg users(IDUs)in Bayingguolen,Xinjang Uygur Autonomous Region and to provide basic data and information for health intervention.MethodsInformation on knowledge anout AID Sand high risk behavior of 202 minority IDUs in four communities of Kuerle city were sureveyed with a questionnaire anonymosuly.ResultsThe total awareness rate about AIDS was 80.5%.The knowledge rates of transmission route,non transmission route of AIDS were 89.5% and 76.5%.Of all IDUs,22.8% shared needles with others in previous one month.The rates of non condomuse when having sex with regular,temporary or commercial sexual partener were 69.5%,60.3%,and 52.0%.The rate of homosexual behavior was 2.7%.The proportion of voluntary counsel and test was 56.9%.ConclusionThe minority IDUs have certain knowledge about AIDs,but there are dual risks of infection of HIV by sharing needle or having sexual behavior.
