Prevalence of violence-related injury in Sichuan province

ObjectiveTo study epidemiolgical characteristics of violence-related injury and to provide scientific basis for the prevention of vilence-related injury and the perfection of identification standard.MethodsTotally 1 556 cases of violence-related injury during 2006-2008 in nine counties of Northeast, Sichuan province were collected and retro-spectively analyzed.ResultsThe incidence of the injury was 6.75/10⁵ to 7.2/10⁵.The majority of the injury victmis were young males aged 15 to 24 years(27.1%).The proportions of student and public offficial among the victims of injury were increased in recenty ears(6.2%).The most frequent seasons for the occurence of the injury were May and June.The injuries frequently occurred at 20:00 to 23:00 of the day.The frequency of sharp injury was more than that of blunt injury.The main injured part was the head-face(26.6%).The most part of the injury was moderate injury(49.0%).ConclusionCorresponding preventive measrures should be taken according to the characteristics of violence-related injury.
