Potential inhibitive effect of probiotics on adherence of pathogens to murine intestinal mucosa

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the potential inhibitive effect of the probiotics on the adherence of Escherichia coli K1and Klebsiella pneumoniae tomurine intestinalmucosa.MethodsFemale BALB/c mice were randomly assigned to probiotics group, probiotics+pathogen group, pathogen group, and non-treated group as control.SYBR Green I real-time PCR was used to detect Bifido bacteria and Lactobacillus bulgaricus quantitatively in the mice with probiotics as well as pathogens (Escherichia coli K1 and Klebsiella pneumoniae)administered orally. The murine in testinal microbiota of probiotics group was examined by denaturing gradient gele lectrophoresis.ResultsIn the probiotics group,DNA level of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus bulgaricus increased significantly and chieved stability at the seventh day.DNA level of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus bulga ricus in probiotics group increased significantly compared with that of the control(P<0.05).The level of DNA of Escherichia coli K1 and Klebsiella pneumoniae in the group of probiotics combined with pathogens was decreased remarkably compared to that of the pathogens group only(P<0.01).Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis demonstrated the greater homogeneity of intestinal flora after administration of probiotics.ConclusionProbiotics inlive tablets could colonize in intestinalm ucosa, and strongly inhibit pathogen adherence ability and improve the intestinal symbiotic homeostasis.
