A preliminary study on nutritional status of Beijing residents in 2009 and its changing trend

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate nutritional status among Beijing residents of 2009 and to describe its changing trends in comparison with the results in 2002.MethodsThe nutrition and health survey among Beijing residents was held in 2009.With multi stage,random cluster sampling,205 households in 6 districts were chosen for the study.The average consumption of foods per standard person per day was calculated based on the data collected with food weghing method.ResultsFor every standard person,379.4 grams of cereals and tubers,495.5 grams of vegetables,188.1 grams of fruits, 99.0 grams of poultry and meat, 16.9 grams of aquatic products,53.3 grams of eggs,121.2 grams of dairy products,20.1 grams of soys,39.6 grams of oil, and 10.3 grams of salt were consumed per day in 2009.The energy in take was 2 462.6 Kcal per standard person per day,and the proportion was 13.6% from protein,32.8% from fat, 53.6% from carbohydrate, respectively.Compared with the data in 2002,the consum ptions of vegetable,sfruits and diary products increased while the consumptions of aquatic products,oils and salt decreased.The proportion of energy provided by fat decreased,too.The in takes of calcium and potassiuminc reased and the intake of sodium decreased.ConclusionThe dietary pattern and nutritional status of Beijing residents in 2009 improved remarkably compared with those in 2002.However,the unfavorable factors related to population health still need much more attention.
