Quality of life of hypertension patients and related impact fators in rural Anqing of Anhui province

  • Objective To investigate the quality of life(QOL) in middle and old aged hypertensive patients in rural Anqing of Anhui province and to discuss its determ inants.Methods Questionnaire cited on SF-36 instrument and determinants of QOL and basic state questionnaire were used to make surveys among 1.673 hype tensive patients.Results The QOL scores of patients were 81.56 16.24(physical functioning),59.58±43.81 (physical role),22.21±22.34 (bodily pain),49.15±6.42 (general health),56,58±12,74 (vitality),60.77±13.27 (social functioning),65.03±44.26 (emotional role),and 62.55±9.24 (mental health).Multivariable analysis showed that gender (β=-9.84,P < 0.05),income(β=14.99,P < 0.01),education level(β=16.13,P < 0.01),mental status(β=23.78,P < 0.01),whether having other chronic diseases(β=11.75,P < 0.01),physical exercise(β=31.32,P < 0.01),payment of medical expenses (β=24.89,P < 0.01),and a ttitude to disease(β=6.59,P < 0.05) singificantly influenced the quality of life among the hypertension patients.Conclusion The quality of life of female hypertention patients is relatively low.Gender,income education level,mental status,whether having other chronic diseases,physical exercise,payment of medical expenses,and a ttitude to disease are important factors affecting the quality of life among rural hypertension patients atmiddle or older age.
